PreSchool

I almost have a preschooler...Wowser!

Isaac is turning 4 and that means preschool time.  And since we aren't super crazy about the idea of sending him to preschool for various reasons (mainly his learning style and our parenting philosophies) we are planning to "homeschool preschool".  Since I'm such a planner I am in the process of going through Pinterest and keeping my printer hopping!  I'm a big time planner so I need a structured lesson plan and schedule, now I dont think 4 year olds are ready for all day lessons, so as far as HE will know, there is no change.

Parents/teachers, what skills do you think he really needs to focus on in "preschool".  We arent sure yet what our plans for Kindergarten are so I want to make sure he is prepared whatever we may chose.

My list so far:
Alphabet
Numbers
Writing
Fine Motor skills (coloring, cutting, line tracing, etc.)
Matching
Shapes
Sequences (first, second, third, etc and smaller to bigger, and patterns, etc.)
Calendar/Days of the Week
Seasons
Units like insects, plants, weather, etc.

Okay moms and teachers...any input?  Any creative ideas for a rambunctious 4 year old boy?

Fathers Day 2012

A little late on my Fathers Day post.  But here it be...

I have been blessed to be married to my best friend and to get to see him develop in to a Father.  But not just a Father...a Daddy.  A Daddy to two wonderful boys.  When thinking about our journey into parenthood, he is often forgotten, but in reality he had a hard "job" too, he was left helpless.  All he could do was stand by and watch...then the babies were born...I provided milk, did the mommy things...he got to stand by and watch...he drove the car, he left me do skin to skin most of the time to help my nursing.   But he was much more than a chauffer....he was my rock.  He was and still is my level head.  He is the best Daddy ever....I'm so ever thankful that he is the man for me and the Father of my children.

Pray for Rain

Pray for Rain!!

It is hot and dry here at our little homestead.  It hasnt rained in two months, we've sat and watched rain go all around here, very frustrating.  As I type hubby is out watering trying to get our garden to hold on just a bit longer.  I'm furiously putting what I can in jars to enjoy this winter.  I must say, nothing is quiet as rewarding as a pantry full of jars of food that your know EXACTLY where it came from....so far we have ground seasoned venison, green beans, black bean soup, white beans and ham, potatoes, various jellies and jams (strawberry, blackberry, plum), even some strawberry lemonade.  A few things int he freezer including strawberries, a few peaches, some corn, some cabbage, a few onions, some blackberries.  Canned a bit of salsa today, hoping to get a few more tomato things in the jar as well.

Isaac helped do salsa today, I enjoyed the fact that he said to get out the pressure cooker (I use it as a water bath canner when needed), how many three year olds know what that is?  I let him use the knife under supervision and cut up the tomatoes on the cutting board, he told me that he liked that job and that it made him so happy.  Little James watched and dreamed of HIS day to help.

Today I also started birthday party planning...hard to think in a little more than a month I'll be mama to a 4year old and a 1 year old.  What a long way these two have come from the little two pound babies they were.  God is Good.

I hear the dirty dishes calling so I better go tend to them before supper!

Isaac-isms

Isaac is at that age where the things that come out of his mouth have you stifling laughter while being the grownup.

"Mama, I don't have time to pick up my toys right now"

"Stop backtalking me!"

"Are you trying to make me angry.  I getting angry."

*singing* "There were three in the bed and the little one said 'rollover rollover' then the big one said 'no'"

"Baby James a baby, he cries a lot.  I only cry when you spank me."

After I told him we wouldn't buy that toy today..."eerrrnnnkkk, wrong answer"

And to fill you in on James...10 months old.  13lb9oz.  Crawling!  Pulling up!  Jabbering and squealing up a storm. Eats like he has a bottomless pit for a tummy.
